Murals of Music City

Murals of Music City

It doesn’t take more that a quick scroll through my Instagram feed to realize that I have thing for photo walls. Nearly every other photo is in front of a made-for-instagram mural, but can you really blame me? I am a basic millennial after all and some walls are just too cute to pass up. In Nashville, this was the case more often than not.

From famous pieces of street art to those that are lesser known on the internet, Nashville certainly doesn't disappoint. Here’s the breakdown of my top five murals and where to find them:

Draper James' Southern Stripes

Located at the Draper James store at 2608 12th Ave S, these sweet southern stripes serve as a wonderful portrait backdrop. As an added bonus, we found one of Nashville's more iconic murals (and the next of my top five) right across the street. . .

I Believe in Nashville

Across the way from Draper James and on the other side of Howell's Alley, lives the original "I Believe in Nashville" mural. While this iconic mural can easily stand alone, it has been known to make a great backdrop over the years. Just check out all of the pictures on the @howellsalley instagram page and you'll see what I mean.

Peace in Nashville

This mural along 12 South gave me a flashback to the streets of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco. Advocating for the Peace, Love, and Good Deeds brand, this tie-dye masterpiece was calling my name. The only downside? This mural is so massive, it's hard to get all of its beauty in one frame.

Color Wall in the Gulch

Probably my favorite wall of them all, the color wall at the Gulch is fifteen different shades of bright, patterned, playful fun. Just being here put me in a good mood and I still smile when I think about this place (and the freaking fantastic juice bar across the street). However, if something a little grungier is more your style, one wall over is a green graffiti style mural that you might find a little more fitting.

What Lifts You Angel Wall

It's not a secret that I call Nashville my country music heaven, and I even found the angel wings to go along with it. At 302 11th Ave S in the Gulch, you can find one of the most photographed walls in the city. While I had to wait in line to take my picture with the wings, I'm certain that it was worth it. Look closely and you'll see boots, a hat, two guitars, butterflies, and flowers. No other wall captures the spirit of Music City quite like this one. Even now, home in California, I find myself wishing these wings were real so I could fly back to the music, culture, and art of Nashville, Tennessee.
